Charting a New Course: Interim Leadership at the Forefront of Fashion
A New Chapter Begins for the CFDA
The Council of Fashion Designers of America has officially announced the appointment of Hildy Kuryk as its interim Chief Executive Officer. This strategic move follows the recent resignation of Steven Kolb, the organization's previous CEO. Kuryk will assume the leadership role under a temporary contract, guiding the CFDA through a transitional period until a permanent successor is identified.
The Extensive Search for Permanent Leadership
To facilitate the search for a new, permanent CEO, the CFDA has engaged Karen Harvey Consulting Group. The organization anticipates that this thorough selection process will span approximately three to six months. During this time, Kuryk's interim leadership will be vital in maintaining stability and progress within the organization.
Hildy Kuryk's Distinguished Background and Expertise
Although Hildy Kuryk is new to a direct role at the CFDA, her professional background is deeply rooted in the fashion industry and extends into high-level communications and politics. From 2013 to 2017, she held the position of executive director of communications at Vogue, where she collaborated closely with Anna Wintour. Her career also includes co-founding Artemis Strategies, a specialized consultancy that has served prominent clients such as Condé Nast, Nordstrom, and The Met. Before her tenure at Vogue, Kuryk dedicated 15 years to the political arena, notably serving as the national finance director for the Democratic National Committee, showcasing her diverse leadership capabilities.
The Resignation of Steven Kolb: A Catalyst for Change
The transition in leadership at the CFDA was prompted by Steven Kolb's resignation. Kolb, who had been a long-standing CEO, stepped down after an incident at a COS show on September 13, where he was captured on video restraining Peta protestors. The video quickly gained viral traction, leading to Kolb's resignation five days later and initiating the current leadership restructuring.
Ensuring Continuity and Strategic Operations
As the search for a permanent CEO progresses, Hildy Kuryk will play a critical role in overseeing the CFDA's ongoing operations and ensuring a seamless transition. Her responsibilities will include serving as a crucial link between the CFDA staff and the board of directors. Kuryk will also continue to manage her duties at Artemis Strategies concurrently. The non-profit trade organization, renowned for coordinating major events like New York Fashion Week, the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, and the CFDA Fashion Awards, is committed to maintaining its crucial contributions to the fashion industry under her interim guidance.
